The Most Cost Effective HOT Waste Oil Transfer System.

Donuts

Unfortunately for us a donut shop does not usually need a  Shortening Shuttle®.  The Donuts absorb the oil, that's why they taste so good (and are so bad for you, but then aren't all the best foods like that!).  So, oil usually only gets added when frying donuts, not replaced.

Trips to the Emergency Room

We have learned that the average cost of a trip to the emergency room for restaurant burns is approximately $600.00.  It may be even higher now. It has been a couple of years since we last checked this figure.  But in any case, it is more than the cost of a  Shortening Shuttle® and considering that skin begins to burn at 120 F most Hot Grease is going to burn any skin it contacts.

Durability and Strength

We know of one unit that was accidentally run over by a catering truck.  Oops.  But, it continued to work just fine, although we do not know it's current geometry after the little incident.  We know it worked for at least two years because it was told to us two years in a row while at the annual NRA Show in Chicago, Il.

Grease Dumpster Locations

A restaurant's grease dumpster may be just a 55 gallon drum (which could be pretty beat up) or it may be a large container similar to a trash dumpster (this also may not be a pretty sight).  Most of the time it's located outside of the building and there are usually a couple of stairs to contend with when leaving the building.  Ahhh... but where outside?  Well, most have a central disposal area at the back of the building maybe across a drive or maybe across the whole parking lot.  It's most likely fenced in to hide it ( dress it up a bit) from the customers.  After all who wants to see a dump on the way into the establishment you wanted to eat in?

To keep the Shuttle Pump's Pump Clear

Although easy to use, the Shuttle Pump must be properly maintained.  You MUST MUST reverse the pump after dumping all the oil into the dumpster.  By reversing the pump you will clear the oil from the pump so it will rotate properly.  If you don't then the oil may solidify causing the pump to not work until it is cleared.  This is especially true if your oil has a high flour/breading content in it.  Basically, the flour/breading forms a very solid solid when it cools and dries out.  At this point the only solutions are to 1) put the unit in an area that is or will be 90 or more degrees F and hope it is enough to melt the hardened grease or 2) disassemble the pump and clean it out plus, clean out the suction tube that is also filled with solid grease.  It's not a nice job and is best avoided with the training of all who may use the unit.

Waste Containers / Greasy Dumpsters

Grease dumpsters, although a messy thing, are a necessary item.  The height of your dumpster determines your Shortening Shuttle® model choices.  The dumpster may be flat on the ground, up on a platform or on wheels.  It's usually supplied in a configuration that best suits the rendering company's ease of emptying it.  BUT,  remember the rendering company works for you.  So,  if your dumpster is not properly accommodating your Shortening Shuttle® then talk to your rendering company.  They want your grease so they will most likely help you out with an alternate size or even rearranging the dumpster area for better access.
